What to include in a website design brief

A clear website brief helps the client and agency solve the same problem. It does not need to prescribe the design. It should explain the business context, users, desired actions and practical constraints.

Define the commercial objective

Explain whether the website should generate enquiries, sell products, support investors, improve recruitment or reposition the brand. List the most important conversion actions.

Describe users and their questions

Include priority audiences, locations, languages and the questions each user needs answered. This shapes navigation, content and calls to action.

List content and SEO requirements

Identify current pages, planned services, existing rankings and content owners. Involving an SEO specialist before design can prevent costly restructuring after launch.

Clarify functionality and integrations

Document forms, CRM, booking, e-commerce, payment, multilingual, analytics and consent requirements. Share technical constraints early.
